Thick crust with or without oscular mounds: 1 - 4 cm thick; 2 - 4 cm high. Gray to bluish-purple externally, lighter color internally. Oscula: 0.5 - 1 cm wide. Smooth, strongly punctuate surface, almost hispid looking. Soft, sticky to the touch (Ref. 415). May be encrusting or in clusters of tubes (Ref. 86785).
Minimum depth from Ref. 82124. Common on mangrove roots and corals (Ref. 415).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
