Color: yellow to yellow-green, yellow-brown, or yellow-orange. Surface usually covered with low, fine conulose projections, but sometimes smooth. Consistency: tough, compressible.
Minimum depth from Ref. 108813. Occurs in shallow hard grounds, coral reefs (Ref. 85482), and in mangroves (Ref. 86836).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
