Found in sandy shores. An opportunistic scavenger, consuming carrion composed of discarded trash fish and other dead animal parts (Ref. 125407). Prefer habitats with high salinities but can also survive in diluted waters. Density is higher on areas affected by organic pollution (Ref. 127128).

This species is a non-broadcast spawner. Life cycle does not include trocophore stage. Also Ref. 833.
