Originally described as eyeless, adults, however, possess a dorsal photoreceptor organ (Ref. 97382). Occurs in dense aggregations around sites of high temperature at hydrothermal vents. Feeds on epibiotic bacteria and bacteria found on sulphide surfaces. Juveniles are planktonic (Ref. 97382).

Members of the order Decapoda are mostly gonochoric. Mating behavior: Precopulatory courtship ritual is common (through olfactory and tactile cues); usually indirect sperm transfer.
