Branch width: 0. 5 - 3 cm. Branch length: 20 - 60 cm. Ramose, with erect or repent branches. Brownish-pink to purple externally, tan internally. Microconulose surface; 0.01 - 0.02 cm high; less than 0.05 cm wide. Skeletal mesh with mean area of 0.04 square centimeters (Ref. 415).
Common on reefs, 2 to 20 m deep (Ref. 415).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
