Colonies are composed of thin, unificial laminae usually forming upright whorls. Whorls may be 100 cm high and may cover a large area. Fall over the slightest touch. Coenosteum: rough with small papillae. Corallites: embedded; others are tiny or inclined irregularly on tuberculae. Pale brown or greenish (Ref. 846).

Members of the class Anthozoa are either gonochoric or hermaphroditic. Mature gametes are shed into the coelenteron and spawned through the mouth. Life cycle: The zygote develops into a planktonic planula larva. Metamorphosis begins with early morphogenesis of tentacles, septa and pharynx before larval settlement on the aboral end.
