Short description Morfologi

Colonies have encrusting bases on which cylindrical columns are developed that may reach 2 m in height. Septo-costae are thick, in two alternating orders. Tentacles remain extended during the day giving columns a furry appearance. Grey-brown in color.

Mature gametes are shed into the coelenteron and spawned through the mouth. Life cycle: The zygote develops into a planktonic planula larva. Metamorphosis begins with early morphogenesis of tentacles, septa and pharynx before larval settlement on the aboral end (Ref. 833).
