Intertidal on sandy and especially muddy beaches (Ref. 801), and mudflats (Ref. 128960), in eulitorral to low tide zone. Lives in burrows; emerges at low tide to deposit feed on surface (Ref. 801). Members of the family Ocypodidae are typical deposit feeders (Refs. 108430, 128960).

Members of the order Decapoda are mostly gonochoric. Mating behavior: Precopulatory courtship ritual is common (through olfactory and tactile cues); usually indirect sperm transfer.
