Scarlet red to orange. Cylindrical branches, single or divided. Spiny, round and blunt processes present on surface.
Occurs on coral reef bottoms at depths between 0.5 to 35 m (Ref. 81712). Also found in mangroves (Ref. 86836), and rocky bottoms (Ref. 83912). Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge (Ref. 833).
