Definition of Term

alginic acid
(English) Organic compound related to carbonhydrates, extracted from brown algae, mostly from Laminaria species. Used in the food industry as a stabilizer and a thickener; its salts, the alginates, are also used in industrial processes. (See also: algae, agar)
