Remarks The Mediterranean subpopulation is critically endangered according to the IUCN (Ref. 36508). Migrants in this area are observed to take an indirect course based on their migratory pattern to maximize foraging areas en-route that may allow them to refuel. During winter, diapause is observed among this species since this is an enclosed area prohibiting them from further migrations in avoidance to cold waters (Ref. 85360).
