Encrusting. Three cycles of septa present; tertiaries small, with distinct corresponding costae. Some with principal septae between 1 to 5, with elongated tertiaries (Ref. 88968). Calices may be sub-cerioid to plocoid. Color varies from cream to light brown, grey, or bright green (Ref. 130769).

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Maximum depth based on Ref. 88968. Occurs on intertidal rock pools, subtidal reefs and boulder substrata (Ref. 88997). Known to encrust over Lithophyllum sp. at a depth of 36 m (Ref. 88968). Popular with borers: bivalves, barnacles, and polychates (Ref. 130769).

Life cycle and mating behavior Maturity | Reproduction | Spawning | Eggs | Fecundity | Larvae

Hermaphroditic (Ref. 113712). Mature gametes are shed into the coelenteron and spawned through the mouth. Life cycle: The zygote develops into a planktonic planula larva. Metamorphosis begins with early morphogenesis of tentacles, septa and pharynx before larval settlement on the aboral end (Ref. 833).
