It has lengths of 8 to 25 cm TL; 2 to 10 cm (mostly between 3 and 6 cm) CL; 3.4 to 7.4 cm CL ovigerous females (Ref. 4). Maximum depth from Ref. 105127. Deep-sea species. Found on the continental shelf (Ref. 87391). Members of the family Nephropidae are generalists (Ref. 105344).
Spawning takes place in both spring and autumn, probably all year round. Life cycle: Embryonic development takes 1 year (Ref. 105127). Mating behavior: Precopulatory courtship ritual is common (through olfactory and tactile cues); usually indirect sperm transfer (Ref. 833).
