Formation: hemispherical or flat; rarely exceeds 0.2 m across. Valleys: short, often wide, usually less than 25 mm wide. Walls: thick, may have an ambulacral groove in extreme cases. Thick costae. Septa: thick, with large blunt spines. Columellae: large, centered in valleys. Color: cream (Ref. 848).
Occurs in exposed upper reef slopes and reef flats (Ref. 848).

Members of the class Anthozoa are either gonochoric or hermaphroditic. Mature gametes are shed into the coelenteron and spawned through the mouth. Life cycle: The zygote develops into a planktonic planula larva. Metamorphosis begins with early morphogenesis of tentacles, septa and pharynx before larval settlement on the aboral end.
