Western Atlantic: from Connecticut, USA to Florida and Campeche Bank, Yucatan, Mexico, Brazil south to Mar del Plata, Argentina.

A cryptic benthic species found in shallow-water. Both juvenile and adult species can be found in cooler waters on rocks, rubble, shell beds, or the boundary between sand and rock, up to 200 meters (Ref. 131166).
