It is found on rocky substrates and stones from the intertidal area to a depth of 100 m. It feeds on brownish encrusting demosponges (Ref. 87801).

Spawning is observed during southern summer and autumn. Egg mass is very long yellowish ribbon forming a spiral with up to 7 whorls. There are 3 to 4 small spherical eggs in each capsule.
