This species is found under stones and boulders, in rocky pools with moderate water exchange, in intertidal areas to 5 meters in depth. It is rarely found in fjords (Ref. 87801).

Members of the class Polyplacophora are mostly gonochoric. Life cycle: Eggs hatch into lecitotrophic planktonic trocophore larvae (no veliger stage) which later metamorphose and settle on the bottom as young adults.
