Short description Morphology

Very long chelifore scapes, ocular tubercle, erect abdomen, palps, ovigers, and legs with extremely attenuated and slender propodus, claw, and auxiliaries. Lateral processes and first coxae having small laterodistal tubercles and posterior 4 legs with a sex pore spur (Ref. 2153, p. 8).

Members of the class Pycnogonida are gonochoric and sexually dimorphic. During copulation, male usually suspends itself beneath the female. Fertilization occurs as the eggs leave the female's ovigers. Males brood the egg masses until they hatch. Life cycle: Eggs hatch into protonymphon larva then to adults.
