Comments The first sample of P. macrodactylus was found in 1998, followed by several in 1999 and 2000. In 2006, specimens of P macrodactylus were recorded in Gironde and Adour Estuaries. The presence of ovigerous females in Gironde Estuary suggests a possibly established and self-reproducing population. Interactions with local fauna may cause a decrease in the native shrimp population abundance due to food competition, and a disturbance in estuarine functioning due to the additional resource for fish species with the spread of P. macrodactylus.
