Definition of Term

simultaneous hermaphroditism
(English) A form of hermaphroditism in which each individual is simultaneously male and female and can release either sperm or eggs while spawning. The only known reef-associated examples are a few sparids and the serranine sea basses. See also 'synchronous hermaphroditism'. (See also: sequential hermaphrodite, gonochorism, synchronous hermaphrodite)
