Definition of Term

(English) The technique by which fish regulate and maintain their internal water and salt concentrations against those in the surrounding environment; the biological strategy employed by fish to regulate and maintain their internal water and salt concentrations against the water and salt concentrations in their surrounding environment, i.e., saltwater or freshwater.
