Definition of Term

lantern net
(English) Type of open trap of a conical form, the lower opening being the larger. Cast by hand in shallow water, it covers the bottom to catch the fish. Once captured, the fish are removed by way of the upper opening.

(French) Filet en forme de nasse ouverte aux deux extrémités, de forme grossièrement tronconique, dont l'ouverture inférieure est la plus large. Utilisé à la main en eaux peu profondes, il est plaqué sur le fond rapidement pour suprendre le poisson. Une fois capturé, celui-ci est retiré à la main par l'ouverture supérieure.
