Short description Morphology

Up to 31 cm wide; rhopalar and tentacular stomach pouches connected by several broad, transverse anastomoses; peripheral canals without anastomoses; radial muscles entirely outside the periphery of the circular muscle band; horseshoed shaped insertions of tentacle groups 2 to 3 times a s long as broad.

Members of the class Scyphozoa are gonochoric. Life cycle: Egg is laid by the adult medusa which later develops into a free-living planula, then to a scyphistoma to a strobila, and lastly to a free-living young medusa.
