  Remark
:
Carapace strongly convex, transversely subovate anterior and lateral margins forming a single arc; frontal margin triangular, narrow; posterolateral parts forming clypeiform expansions over the legs, ending in broader or narrower teeth. Merus of third maxillipeds distinctly triangular; opening for afferent respiratory current at base of chela, no canal present along sides of buccal cavern even when third maxillipeds pushed aside. Chelipeds large and flattened, in a flexed position fitting exactly against the front of the body, eyes just looking over them; palm of chelae with high dorsal cock’s comb-like crest; right (larger) chela with special tooth on base of pollex for peeling gastropods; last 4 pairs of legs similar, smooth; dactyls without spines or hairs, not paddle-like. Male abdominal segments 3 to 5 completely fused. Burrowing crabs on soft and mud substrates. Most species of minor commercial importance (Ref. 104052).
