Definition of Term

r-selection
(English) A life history strategy characterised by early maturity, rapid growth, large numbers of young produced at an early age, small body size, high mortality and short life span. This strategy is an adaptation to an unpredictable environment such as that found in the Arctic. Opposite of k-selection. (See also: k-selection)
