plankton bloom
(English) An outburst of planktonic organism, triggered by favorable environmental conditions such as nutrients and light; an event where conditions are conducive to rapid reproduction of planktonic organisms in the ocean or other body of water. (See also: plankton, herbivore, filter feeding)
