Definition of Term

instantaneous rates
(English) In fishery biology, instantaneous rates are used to describe the decrease in numbers of fish over time as Nt = No * e^-Zt , where No is the initial number and Nt is the number of the remaining fish at the end of time t. Z is the instantaneous total mortality rate, usually composed of M + F, where M is the natural mortality rate and F is the mortality rate caused by the fishery.. (See also: natural mortality)

(French) En biologie des pêches, les taux instantanés sont un indice de la baisse en nombre de poissons en fonction du temps comme Nt = No * e^-Zt où No est le nombre initial et Nt le nombre de poisson restant à la fin du temps t. Z est le taux de mortalité totale instantanée, habituellement composé de M + F où M est le taux de mortalité naturelle et F est le taux de mortalité due à la pêche. (See also: natural mortality)
