Max. size:  2.54 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthic; marine; depth range 0 - 18 m
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: USA and the West Indies.
Diagnosis:  Maximum Total Length: 2.5 centimeters. Girdle: Covers the valves. Valves color: Red; occasionally spotted with white. Valves shape: Heart-shaped, covered with minute; round, sharply raised pustules, except on narrow dorsal ridge. Girdle: Rusty brown, lower edge with a spiculose fringe. Valves: have four tufts of long, glassy bristles. Tufts: Set in cuplike collars (Ref. 281).
