Max. size:  13 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthic; marine; depth range 0 - 12 m
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific and Eastern Indian Ocean: Hong Kong and Australia.
Diagnosis:  Color varies from pale translucent yellow to bright orange. Mature specimens entirely orange, with gonads showing as white patches along the lateral body margins. Has a large, distinct mouth. The bluntly rounded head is slightly narrower than the trunk, and the body is widest in its anterior quarter.
Biology:  Found under boulders or rocks in coarse sand (Ref. 125683). Also found on rock pools (Ref. 126155).

Country info:  Type locality: Starfish Bay, as Procephalothrix arenarius. Known from southwest of Flynn's Point, east of Gruff Head, Round Island, and Crooked Island (Ref. 125683).
