Family:  Trochidae (Top shells)
Max. size:  2 cm SHD (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthic; brackish; marine; depth range 0 - 5 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: from East Africa to eastern Indonesia; north to the Philippines and south to northern Queensland.
Diagnosis:  Shell small and lenticular. Spire low with slightly convex, shallow incised suture surrounding the whorl. Periphery of body whorl regularly rounded. Entire surface of shell smooth and polished. Colouration: shell shiny, highly variable in pattern and coloration, in shades of grey, brown, olive green, pink, pred, yellow or white (Ref. 128042).
Biology:  In local markets, vendors traditionally give the buyer aromatic thorns (Acacia pennata) to pry the meat out of the small shell. Also used in the shellcraft industry (Ref. 128042), to make dolls and decorative items (Ref. 349). Found on fine sandy (Ref. 128042) and muddy substrate (Ref 126564). Also found in shallow subtidal water. Occurs at the low tide mark (Ref. 349).
