Family:  Muricidae (purpuras, murex and rock shells)
Max. size:  8 cm SHL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthic; marine
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: from East and South Africa to Papua New Guinea; north to Japan and south to Queensland.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Collected for food at low tide, where common (Ref. 349). Preys on oysters and barnacles (Ref. 349).
