Distribution:  Arctic, Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean and Northern Pacific. Tropical to polar.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Considered as an indicator species of pollution (Ref. 125886). Inhabits muddy detritic areas (Ref. 2780). Benthic; also found in reefs (Ref. 3209). Carnivore (Ref. 108269), but also considered a surface deposit feeder (Ref.108299).
