Max. size:  1.7 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthic; marine; depth range 0 - 40 m
Distribution:  Arctic and Northern Pacific. Polar to boreal.
Diagnosis:  Most common in oyster beds and among growths of algae (Ref. 290). Girdle: narrow; closely beset with minute spines but appearing almost smooth to the naked eye. Surface: Smooth but under a lens the valves are finely granulated in quincunx. Lateral areas: Scarcely defined. Valve color: Olive-brown, streaked, maculated or clouded with blue or chestnut (Ref. 297).
