Family:  Muricidae (purpuras, murex and rock shells)
Max. size:  9 cm ShH (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthic; marine
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: from East and South Africa to eastern Indonesia; north to Japan and south to southern Indonesia.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occasionally used as food in the area (Ref. 349). It preys on oysters, barnacles and limpets. Occurs from low to mid tide mark (Ref. 349).
