Distribution:  Asia Inland Waters: Platanista gangetica gangetica: Throughout the Ganges-Brahmaputra river system of India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan below an elevation of 250 m; Platanista gangetica minor: Indus River and its tributaries, the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlei Rivers, of Pakistan and India.

Biology:  Lives in main channels, flood season, seasonal tributaries and the flooded lowlands. Feeds on several species of fishes, prawns, invertebrates, and possible turtles and birds (Ref. 1394).
