Environment:  benthic; brackish; marine; depth range 0 - 72 m
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific: from Sonora, Mexico to Tumbes, Peru. Introduced in the eastern Indian Ocean, north and west Pacific, and western Atlantic.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Dominant shrimp culture species in the world (Ref. 78744). Occurs at depths from 0 to 72 m in bottom mud marine (adults) and estuarine (juveniles) environment. Subtropical to tropical climates (Ref. 8).
