Family:  Buccinidae (buccinum whelks)
Max. size:  16.5 cm SHH (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthic; marine; depth range 0 - 100 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic Ocean, Northeast Pacific and the Arctic: Alaska, Canada, USA. Subtropical to polar.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Sometimes found along the intertidal zone but more often on shallow shores to 100 m depth, on sand-mud substrate (Ref. 95344).
