Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found on shallow patch of reefs, deep reefs and sand flats. Zoanthids are occasionally observed growing on this species. Known to harbor a host specific community of the cyanobacteria Synechococcus spongiarum which produce high amounts of chlorophyll-a (Ref. 121135).
