Family:  Muricidae (purpuras, murex and rock shells)
Max. size:  11.5 cm SHL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthic; marine; depth range 16 - 37 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: from Madagascar and Mascarene Islands, India, Sri Lanka and the Andaman Sea, to the Philippines; north to southern Japan and south to southern Indonesia.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Used locally as food (Ref. 349). Occurs at the low tide mark (Ref. 349). Feeds on other gastropods by drilling a hole in the victim's shell (Ref. 85382).
