Family:  Muricidae (purpuras, murex and rock shells)
Max. size:  5 cm SHL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthic; marine
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: from India to Melanesia; north to Taiwan Province of China and south to southern Indonesia and New Caledonia.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Collected for food in various parts of the Indo-West Pacific, notably in Indonesia, Indo-China, and India (Ref. 349). On muddy littoral rocks (Ref. 349). Members of the family Muricidae are carnivorous (Ref. 108589).
