Distribution:  Arctic, Northern Atlantic and Indo-West Pacific. Tropical to temperate.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found on bay and nearshore (Ref. 116102). Prefers freshwater habitats. During winter they may be found in saline habitats along the coast where water is shallow and fairly sheltered such as brackish lagoons and estuaries, and bays. Omnivorous and opportunistic (Ref. 107911).
