Remarks | 'dancer', 'one who dances or takes part in a dance,' from the word 'dance', from Old French 'dancier', of unknown origin, probably from Low Frankish '*dintjan' akin to Old Frisian 'dintje' meaning 'tremble, quiver' (Ref. 121225) . H. sanguineus obtained its common name from its resemblance when swimming, to the skirts of a Spanish Flamenco dancer. |
